We plan on relocating our playroom fro our spare room upstairs to our living room. Our living room is located right when you walk in our home; while I want it to be a place for the kids to have fun, I also want to make it a space that isn’t an eye sore and that has some type of style to it.
We thought about getting a nice fancy wall unit for the back wall to house toys but… this space ultimately is for the kids. Someone is bound to write, scratch (you get my drift) on it. So we’re thinking we are going with the Kallax shelving unit from good ol’ Ikea. You can’t beat their prices and I think getting something from there would be perfect for a kids’ space. I’ve seen a ton of playrooms on Pinterest that have used the Kallax shelving and I think they look great! We also plan to relocate our Ikea Karlstad couch we have in our family room and put it in the playroom. We’ve had our couch for many years so we’re ok with it taking a beating from the kids and getting something nicer for ourselves in the family room.
The back wall is very long so we’ll need a few of the Kallax systems. We’re thinking one vertically on either side of one placed horizontally. I’m excited about the amount of storage that we are going to get from it. I’m going to store most of our toys in bins – right now I’m crushing on the striped bins from Land of Nod. They are really cute, look well made and come in a ton of colors.
Below is a mood board of what I currently have floating around my head. Do any of you have your playroom in a main area of the house? How did you make it so that it was functional but also wasn’t an eyesore?
