It’s official, out kitchen has been completely ripped out, we have been kitchenless for exactly a week. The whole process went very smooth. The walls were in perfect condition and any patches and electrical work that needed to be done, is done. The downside? We have stained concrete floors that we are getting tired of. Our contractor for the kitchen told us IF we plan on re-doing our floors NOW would be the time to do it. Why? Because the tile will lift up all appliances about an inch and wouldn’t look level with the counters; plus the whole look of the tile and kitchen would look better and more seamless. Enter deer in headlights look and added stress to this whole remodel and the reason why it’s been a week and we’ve yet to get anywhere with the kitchen. Another thing that would look better if re-done now? Enclosing the living room that will be the playroom once the baby gets here.
We have been calling tile guys, getting estimates and picking out tile for our downstairs – it’s been a lot to add in the last week and hard to find someone. The problem is that these floors need to be done ASAP so we can get our kitchen done. It is no fun being in a home with out a sink and a stove. We’ve been eating at my mother-in-laws on and off which has been great, we’ve also been grilling, and the half bath sink has become my new kitchen sink. I already miss my house so the sooner these floors can be done, the better! We found someone who comes highly recommended, and can do our tile AND the wall to enclose the living room plus he can add in the french doors that we are buying. He says he can start on Monday, but I’m a bit nervous because he’s very busy and I’m scared one of the jobs that he’s trying to finish will take longer than anticipated and he wont be able to start on Monday; but I’m hoping for the best.
The tile we chose – it’s a porcelain, wood looking tile. I think it’s going to make the whole house more brighter and make it look bigger. You can see from this picture how dark our stained concrete floors are. We want something brighter and are tired of the orange color that our floors give off.
So, that’s where we are at. Lots of work still to do, and we’re crossing our fingers and toes that the rest of the project will go seamless and on time… but I’m not holding my breath, ha! I’m just trying to focus on the end result, which I know will be beautiful and functional for our family. Is there a fast-forward button I can press?
