We have a few friends who home-school, and after asking around we decided to go with Calvert Education. We loved they way they taught, it wasn’t just workbooks, or just online – they give you all of the supplies you need (pipecleaners, paint, paper, clay, worksheets, books, music cd, yarn, shapes and so much more) to teach.
Their lesson manual explains to you in detail how to cover each subject, what questions to ask, and how to challenge your child more (if you feel he/she needs it). It also tells you how to teach and how much time should be spent on schooling.
A typical day includes story reading and answering questions, learning poems and nursery rhymes, drawing pictures, learning shapes and letters, crafting, math, singing songs and playing a game. All of the lessons seem to be perfect for E and she really enjoys when we do school – she’s learned a lot in the few months that we’ve been doing it and has perfected writing her name.
I love being able to spend one-on-one time teaching her and so far it’s something that I really enjoy. We do keep her very social, taking her to the park, library and playing with all of her little friends – I’d never want to isolate her and have her miss on having friends and the fun that comes along with childhood 🙂
If you have any other questions – let me know!!
PS – I’m guest posting over at Recent Somethings today about my beach must haves, come on over and say hi!
