Every once in a while, I get a craving for a cocktail something a little different than my usual glass of wine. It’s not often, but it does happen. When those cravings do happen, I look for recipes that have between 2-3 ingredients to keep it simple and ensure I have most of the ingredients on hand.
I came across a recipe for the Greyhound Cocktail and I happened to have all of the ingredients on hand. It was easy enough seeing as the only ingredients are 1) vodka and 2) grapefruit juice. There was an optional addition to add some rosemary simple syrup which I was also able to add, thanks to my new rosemary bush that I picked up at Costco the other day! I’m looking for all of the rosemary recipes now
- 2 ounces of vodka
- 5 ounces of grapefruit juice
- 1/2 ounce of rosemary simple syrup
- to make simple syrup – add a sprig of rosemary to a small pot and add equal parts of sugar and water, about 1/4 cup each. Bring to a boil and allow to cool.
This drink is so good and perfectly refreshing. I love the addition of the simple syrup because it adds a hint of extra sweetness and also a hint of rosemary which is perfectly minty and earthy, an unexpected but delicious addition. The Greyhound would be great to serve at a BBQ or an alfresco dinner. The fact that it’s not too sweet of a drink makes it a perfect compliment to any meal.
Have any of your tried a Greyhound Cocktail before? I think this may be a new favorite of mine!
