I hope everyone had a great weekend! I’ve been wanting to do a Day In The Life post forever, but either I’d forget to snap pictures, or start the day off strong and then forget to take pictures for the rest of the day. Finally, last Tuesday I documented (most) of the day. The last time I did a Day In The Life post was May of 2014 (here), my kids were so small, and life has changed so much. Every day is different here, but this gives a general idea of how our days go. Sorry, there are no pretty pictures – just shots taken with my iPhone throughout the day.
6:45 – my alarm goes off. Most days I hit the snooze until 7 and then wake up the kids and we head downstairs.
7-8:15 – I feed the kids breakfast, make my lemon and water, make my daughter’s lunch, take the dog out and then we head upstairs to get the kids and I ready for the day. I’m usually out of the house by 8:15, my daughter’s school starts at 8:30, and we live pretty close to her school.
8:45 – I get back home and finally pour myself a cup of coffee. I take the dog out again and in the mean time start thinking about what I’m going to make for dinner. My sister and brother are coming over later, and I’m in the mood to make something easy. My husband and I talk about what needs to get done throughout the day and formulate a plan.
9:18 – It’s time to start cleaning up before the cleaning lady comes. I have a cleaning lady who comes every two weeks, and does the deep cleaning in the house. I of course clean the house in between of her coming, but I love that I don’t have to worry about doing a deep cleaning. She usually starts around 10 so we start making sure any clutter is put away so that she can clean.
10:00 – She comes and we start to chit-chat a bit and then she starts cleaning. In the meantime, my husband leaves to run some errands and take the dog to the groomers.
10:15-12 – I throw in a load of laundry and then make myself some oatmeal and catch up on a few blogs. At this point, I also give my son his morning snack. He watches some tv while he eats his snack. I catch up on some laundry that needs to be folded, and do that at this point too.
12:15 – It’s lunch time! I know, I just ate breakfast like two hours ago, but it’s lunch time and I’m already hungry. It’s grilled cheese and fruit for my little man, and I eat some left over Cuban food from the night before.
12:50 – we head outside for some play time, it’s a beautiful day out!
1:30 – The groomer’s call and it’s time to go pick up Paris, so we do. She looks adorable! I tried snapping a picture, but she wouldn’t stay still (enter rolling eyes emoji here). When I get home, I start prepping all of the ingredients for dinner.
2:00 – 2:30 – My husband finally gets home and I help him unload all of the things he bought at Costco, I also quickly have him cut up the whole chicken he just bought and add the ingredients that I prepped to the slow cooker and set it for four hours. Tonight I’m making Chicken Marbella in the slow cooker, roasted brussel sprouts and rice for dinner.
2:35-2:45 – I go upstairs and flat iron my hair. I never flat ironed it from when I washed it the day before.
2:45 – I go pick up my daughter from school.
3:15 – we get home, she eats a snack and we start on homework. I have got her in the habit of doing it right away so that she can have the evening to relax and play. At this point, I also do preschool with my son. It’s hard to do any writing now since he broke his wrist and has a cast so we do letter sounds, sight words and count to 100.
4:00 – The cleaning lady leaves and the house looks awesome. It’s such a breath of fresh air, although it doesn’t last that long with kids (and a husband) ;).
4:15 – I put away all of the clothes that I’ve washed and folded throughout the day, a total of 3 baskets. And then start getting ready. My sister-in-law is going to snap a few pictures of me for the blog. I try doing something simple with my hair and put on some makeup.
5:15 – I pick her up (she lives in my same neighborhood) and we go to our usual spot and take some pictures. My daughter comes with us, and tries telling me how to pose too, haha.
*this is when I stopped taking pictures sorry.
5:45 – I’m back home and changed. I prep the brussel sprouts and start on the rice. My brother-in-law and sister come in and I pour us a glass of wine and we visited as we cooked.
6:45 – We eat dinner.
7:30 – I clean up the kitchen while the kids play and dance around with my sister. I finish up and we all hang out for a few.
8:15 – The kids and I head upstairs to get bathed and ready for bed.
9:00- the kids are in bed and my sister and brother-in-law leave. I finished cleaning up the downstairs and then my husband and I watch a couple of episodes of Parenthood.
11:30 – Lights out!
If you made it until the end, you’re a trooper! It was a fairly easy day, but a fun one. I love that we live so close to our families and that they are so involved in our days and that the kids get to grow up with them being around a lot, even on a random Tuesday :).
